AFTER THIS SEMESTER (SPRING 2008), PHYSICS CLASSES WILL NO LONGER SUPPORT THE OLD "IR" REMOTE TYPES!!!
KEEP YOUR RF REMOTE AT LEAST 8 INCHES AWAY FROM YOUR CELL PHONE. Cell phones can cause RF remotes to freeze-up and temporarily stopping functioning. If this happens your remote will not light up any lights even though you have good batteries. To fix the problem just remove the batteries and press a button or two, then replace the batteries and the remote will be fine.
Older style remotes come in many different colors so the exterior color of the remote DOES NOT TELL YOU if it is a TX-3000 RF remote or a infrared remote. Look at the end of the remote or check the remote code to tell the difference. If the remote code is a number GREATER than 400,000 then it's an RF remote, if the remote code is LESS than 400,000 then it's an infrared remote. You can also look at the end of the remote to tell the difference because the TX-3000 RF remote has three solid black plastic dots that you cannot see through while the older (used) infra-red remotes have either 1, 2 or 3 LED's where one LED would be CLEAR and the others are sort of bluish-black in color. Look at the pictures above for more information.
In terms of using the remotes both the RF and IR types have advantages and disadvantages. With RF remotes you are required to login to the correct radio channel for the classroom for it to function but you DON'T have to point it anywhere specific to get your answers recorded. The IR remote does NOT need to be logged into a radio channel, all you have to do is press your answers, BUT you are REQUIRED to point it at a specific receiver target accurately (which can be quite difficult) to get your response recorded and you must sit within range of one of those receivers. Also the RF remote tells you on the remote with a green light that your answer was recorded while the IR remote does not tell you if your answer was recorded or not. Personally I STRONGLY recommend using one of the RF remote models.

Once you have a remote you need to register YOUR remote code that is located on the back of the TX-3100 remote or underneath the battery inside the TX-3000 or the older IR remotes. The remote code is a six digit number so write it down somewhere so you can remember the code. To register the remote for your class follow the link below and select your specific class and period....if your class is not listed, check with your instructor on how to register your remote.
H-ITT Remote Registration Website FOR LISTED CLASSES ONLY - If your class is not listed, check with your instructor on how to register your remote.
IT IS THE STUDENT'S RESPONSIBILITY TO CHECK IF YOUR ANSWERS ARE BEING RECORDED PROPERLY BY FINDING YOUR REMOTE ID CODE ON SCREEN IN CLASS AND/OR CHECKING YOUR POSTED/EMAILED SCORES REGULARLY!! Any problems with your remote can be fixed immediately if you are checking for your code and scores properly. If you don't check for your code and scores for several weeks and discover later that your remote has not been working properly it is your fault. If you properly check for your code and scores regularly then you will discover any problems immediately and be able to solve it that day.....not several weeks later.
