Things to do in and around Gainesville:
- Check out Lake Alice... you might see an alligator (10 min walk from the Phyiscs Building).
- Gainesville is in Alachua County and there are many Alachua County attractions.
- If you want to bike, the
Gainesville-Hawthorne Trail is a 17 miles long paved trail from Gainesville through
Paines Prairie and the Lockloosa Wildlife Management Area.
- You can also visit Gainesville's
Lake Wauburg.
Things to do near Gainesville:
- Florida is canoe heaven! There are several state parks around Gainesville. For example:
O'Leno State Park
north of High Springs offers nice hiking trails and canoeing on the Sante Fe River.
- Ocala National Forest offers
many outdoor activities. The canoe trip from Juniper Springs is great.
- Florida beaches are historic. The nearest beach is Crescent
Beach south of St. Augustine at Florida's east coast. Combine it with a visit to
St. Augustine (73 miles from the UF campus),
the oldest european settlement in the United States.
- Cedar Key on the Gulf is 59 miles from the UF campus and the Atlantic Ocean is
just 50 miles from the UF campus.
- The Slavador Dali Museum in St. Petersburg
(3 hour drive from the UF campus) contains one of the
largest and best collections of Salvador Dali's works, including some of his most
famous paintings.

- Silver Springs:
37 miles (approximately 50 minute drive) from the UF campus.
- Disney World:
125 miles (approximately 3 hour drive) from the UF campus.
