My research interests focus on the application of numerical simulations to complex systems containing a large range of length
scales and time scales. Applications include particle dynamics, fluid mechanics and solid mechanics. The goal is to model the essential physics of the problem in as simple and fundamental a way as possible. The resulting algorithms are very straightforward to program, very efficient, and easy to parallelize. Current research includes studies of the dynamics of suspended solid particles interacting through hydrodynamic forces transmitted by the fluid; fracture and flow in porous media; and rheology of suspensionsof non-spherical particles.
