Professor Art Hebard Retires

Distinguished Professor Art Hebard has retired after 24 years with UF Physics.

Art was a long-time member of the technical staff at Bell Labs before he joined the department as a Professor in 1996. He quickly showed that he could master the teaching side of his new academic job, and went on to serve as advisor or co-advisor for 23 PhD recipients. Art was awarded the title Distinguished Professor in 2007, and during his time at UF has also received major external recognition for his research including award of the APS James C. McGroddy Prize for New Materials (2008) and the APS Oliver E. Buckley Condensed Matter Prize (2015), as well as election to the National Academy of Sciences (2017).
