UF physics startup finds Florida wildfires lightning fast

This week’s UF News featured a report on Fire Neural Network  (FNN), a startup founded by UF physics PhD student Istvan Kereszy and associate professor Imre Bartos. As a follow-up of FNN winning 1st prize at UF’s AI days pitch competition, the report was filmed during the installation of one of FNN’s precision lightning detectors. This installation was one of several across Florida. The now functioning network of detectors is being used by Florida firefighters, and already helped to find and rapidly extinguish lightning-ignited wildfires.
