Setting up printers located in the New Physics Building
Physics IT maintains a print server called "print.phys.ufl.edu".
The print server has the following print queues:
2052copier - the copier located in room 2052, prints black and white
2052color - a single queue that spreads print jobs over the 2 color printer in 2052
2266copier - the copier located in room 2266, prints black and white
2266color - a single queue that spreads print jobs over the 2 color printers in 2266
1208copier - the copier located in room 1208, students should primarily use this printer
2201Fcopier - the copier located in room 2201F - this copier is reserved for Administration
Setting up printers for Windows 7
1. Go to Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Devices and Printers, Click Add Printer
2. Click Add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer
3. Click the stop button and then click "The printer that I want isn't listed"
4. Click "Select a shared printer by name
5. Type the print server name and the queue name for the printer you want to use:
\\print.phys.ufl.edu\2052copier
\\print.phys.ufl.edu\2066copier
\\print.phys.ufl.edu\2052color
\\print.phys.ufl.edu\2266color
6. Click Next, click install driver if one is needed
7. You should see a message that the printer was successfully added, click Next
8. You can print a test page but is not necessary, click Finish
9. You can change your default printer after you have added all the printers you want to use.
10. The consumable supplies for the color printers are a lot more expensive than for the black
and white printers. For this reason, we request that you set your default printer to one of
the copiers and then make a choice to print color documents.
Printing Tips:
1. If you send a document that is formatted for A4 paper this will cause the color printers to
hold the print job until someone loads A4 paper or until someone presses the cancel button on
the printer to cancel the job. If you see a printer asking for A4 paper please press the cancel
button on the top of the printer to free up that printer.
2. All students should limit their printing to things that are related to their physics education.
3. Use the print server for printing. At some point, we will configure the printers such that they
will only take print jobs from the print server.
